After picking up Judy from the storage compound it occurred to both of us that it was a long weekend in WA! Being a Thursday we knew it was going to be tough to find somewhere to stay. We were just banking on doing what we always do and just rocking up to wherever we thought looked nice….but after a few phone calls we were rudely shocked at the lack of accommodation.
Tara quickly looked through Wikicamps as every minute that passed could have been another park/site being filled up. We were headed for Jurien Bay, but Cervantes a little crayfishing village 20km's south had availability… We booked for three nights and stayed for a week. It was very basic but in its own right very beautiful and quiet… A nice change from the hustle and bustle of Perth.
By Friday night/Saturday morning the park was at full capacity with Perth siders taking advantage of the long weekend.
After not knowing much about Cervantes we decided to have a bit of an explore starting with the Pinnacles. These looked much the same as termite mounds, but thousands of them. Larry loved the drive through them with the sand between the grooves in his tyres (it was at this point he became a keen photographer!) Tristan wanted to capture the moment with his Go Pro… Larry now has the ability of capturing footage as well. There is no end to what he can do… We love him dearly.
We did try our hand at some fishing… Cosy corner (Margaret River) was way better! Nothing at all. Tristan put it down to the fresh water from all the rain we have had…this was later backed up by another keen fisherman.
Did we mention the sunsets? OH MY GOD…. We just couldn't get enough. Every night with a drink in hand we wandered down to the water's edge to see what creation we would see each night. Even after the sun dropped below the horizon line of the Indian Ocean, the colours and formations just got better and better. I don't think we will ever get sick of WA's Sunsets. Just magical.
Thanks Cervantes it was a mistaken highlight!
