Well where do we start… everyone said Denham was beautiful. To be honest, at first, we didn't think it was all it was cracked up to be. That being said, we went out to explore and check out this world heritage area.
We knew there was a National Park close by-Francois Peron… but Tristan and Larry were a bit apprehensive after the sand drive down south. In true Tara style- she had faith! As a group, we opted to give it a go- after all we didn't buy Larry to just stick to the open roads. After checking out the Peron Station it was time to hit the tracks… soft, sandy, corrugated and 50km one way! After 40Km's of sand driving, we reached Herald Bight. We didn't check the sign about the extremely soft sandy entrance to the beach at the end of the track (whoops!!) But as usual after Tara laughing uncontrollably and Tristan hyperventilating, Larry got on with the Job… Low Range and a steady pace he eased himself out. But it was a bit touch and go. After a long drive back out of the park we made sure Larry had pressure back in his tyres to take us to the naturally heated artisian hot tub. The temperature was 38 degrees-it was amazing and relaxing….for the 10 minutes we were able to handle!
During our stay we also visited many other sites including Shell Beach… A beach totally made from cockle shells or as us Melbournians call them 'pippies.' An interesting place made for some awesome photos and a lovely day. After that Larry was rearing to get back on the 4X4 tracks. Thank god it was all rock and not sand. We all had an absolute ball exploring the cliff tops that overlooked the stunning Shark Bay.
Denham, like a fine wine…it got better with age.
