After a couple of nights in Broome, we decided it was a good time to do the mighty Gibb River Road before the arrival of Tara's parents. It was a quick dash to the camping shop to buy a tent after our previous idea of sleeping in Larry didn't quite go to plan. We settled on a tent but we were soon turned off by the rude lady in the shop who wanted $89.95 for a 3 man tent. Tristan then realised he had seen one similar in Woolworths, turns out it was the same tent for only $60 bucks! Bargain hunters! So back to Judy we went, to roll one her mattresses up for some kind of comfort! We managed to pack her up and swap everything over but we had no awning for the car… ARB wanted $400 for a roll out awning but Tristan would have none of that…$25 for a good tarp and with Judy's guy ropes and poles we were se Tara was suitably impressed with Tristan's ingenuity (so he thinks!)

So off we went, fuelled up and hit the road-Derby bound.

We must admit we were a bit apprehensive at first not knowing what to expect from the road. Everyone we had spoken to had warned us about the road and some even suggesting we don't give it a go. Tristan was bracing for the worst (as per usual) but knew that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to get a real taste of the amazing Kimberley- a place we have both always wanted to visit.

Derby itself was interesting. The gallery was stunning and not to mention the historical Boab Prison Tree. The vast amount of the Boab trees were incredible- the different shapes and sizes! We just loved seeing these beautiful trees in their natural environment.

Our first night in the tent was surprisingly pretty comfortable and a lot quicker to set up and pack up than Judy… Shhhh don't tell her! The poor love was back in Broome in the storage compound.

5am we were awake...Excited for the Gibb River Road!
