“The dolphins are begging”- Department of Parks and Wildlife Ranger, Monkey Mia (2016)
Monkey Mia, Western Australia
We HAD to visit the famous Monkey Mia whilst in Denham. We were told to be at the beach by 7.30am as the dolphins could come in anytime between then and 12pm 'if they were up for it!' You would never guess- the dolphins came in right on time…7.45am! It felt a bit planned and not natural but the rangers assured us they would only come in if they wanted too. But let's face it…a free feed… anyone (or animal) wouldn't refuse it.
We watched two of the three feedings (they do a maximum of three a day.) The ranger lost the both of us when he came out screaming "we have a situation…the dolphins are begging and everyone needs to move off the beach immediately" (the dolphins wouldn't leave the 'feeding' area which was open ocean…which they tend to live in!) Of course they will beg….you just fed them all morning!!
All in all, they were very cute and we even saw a couple of turtles cruising around the pier.
Thanks Monkey Mia and to the Dolphins…be careful not to beg!
