Soongies' Great Adventure
Today was a shorter day at the school as we had a leaving lunch for 2 of the volunteers (Susan and Jamal) so we got to go home for lunch and stay at home! Fridays at the school are very relaxed – there was about 1 hour of academic learning and then lots of singing and dancing (we had no idea what we were supposed to be doing). The kids at the school can really move their hips though – so cute! The kids also do a fashion catwalk and have story time. Susan, got each of the kids a teddy – I have never seen so many excited kids! For a lot of them, this is the only toy they have ever received. The kids never complained about their gift even if the one they received was a lot smaller than their friend's – they were all just so grateful for anything. For lunch, the kids got served up a bowl of pilau (rice) – for some of the kids, this is the only meal they get each day so they certainly make the most of it! Back at the house after lunch there were some farewell speeches and gift giving. We then just relaxed and then we went for a walk to try and stay a little bit fit – however this ended with us buying and eating an ice-cream each that only cost us 60 cents (for both)! Dinner consisted of home made samosas filled with peas and carrots or mashed potato and onions. Delicious!
