Our last day in Mombasa (and in Africa) consisted of packing, trying to change our remaining NAD 110 at various bureau de changes (but failing – no one wants Namibian Dollars), seeing the Tusks of Mombasa and eating Chinese food (again)! It also involved eating our last 40 cent fresh mango and drinking our last $2.20 mango shake It's the 47^th day of travelling since we left Australia. By the end of today, we will have taken 10 flights...

We had breakfast and then took a ferry to the airport. Two of the other guests at the hostel had booked a ferry so we just got in the ferry with them. The girl was African and the guy was American - they are going to the registry office on Monday to get married as they both don't want their parents to know of their marriage! Sounds controversial! Today we both had a sleep in after last night's late night! With nothing planned for today we played some card games with the other volunteers whilst the power was out again. Later on we walked to one of the malls and had some chicken and chips, from the chain 'Chicken Inn' for lunch (at about 3:00). We went on the hunt for some nice pineapple from the street vendors but unfortunately couldn't find any that looked too appetising. We came back and the power was ...

So power came back in the early hours of the morning! And as a bonus, it had stopped raining and we actually saw some sun rays. Perfect for the age-old chore of washing clothes by hand. It's amazing how much dirt and dust clothes accumulate - the washing water never seemed to run clear even after 2 washes and rinses - but definitely cleaner than before! So we woke up this morning to still no power and rain outside so we had a big lie in / read in bed. Then before long it was time for lunch (and the power came back on). We both went to a pizza cafe about a minute walk from the house and had some more non-African food - pizza and chicken and mango juice. Wouldn't rave about it but it was a nice change from rice and beans! Power went out again in the afternoon. Watched 2 movies on the laptop. Alice's relatives came...
