Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
It was a short drive from camp to our next stop at Paluma National Park. We definitely squeezed one too many things into today, but I still had a great day and it allows us to get on the road early tomorrow. We started with leaving the camper trailer at the bottom of the windy hill just because we were coming back down shortly so didn't want to tow it unnecessarily. It was no worse than any hill we have previously done but it was quite long.
We went to Little Crystal Creek which is a beautiful spot and a good place for a swim. The area is known for its masonry arch bridge which took 2 years to build. The water is exactly as the name describes being crystal clear and I spotted a small lobster in the waters.
We didn’t swim here but did just up the road at Paradise Lagoon which is part of Big Crystal Creek. It also has a very nice camp ground. Everyone had a great time swimming here and Liam liked to slide down the slippery rock. We had a snorkel here and only saw mountain perch but the ranger says there are heaps of turtles too.
We moved on again (these places are all a very short drive between each other) to "Rock Slide". The last place was great but this was even better. After a short walk you come to a place with a combination of waterfalls, slippery rocks sloping into the water and a deep water hole. Some guys were taking the leap off the 6m high rocks but we just played around the rock slides and the waterfall.
After we found camp in the Jourama Falls section and the boys had a sleep and a play, we headed for the longest walk of the day to the falls. It was 1km each way but made even longer as near the beginning Zach fell over and started being hysterical at the sight of blood from his knee even though it wasn’t that bad. So I carried him down stairs and across the rocky path before convincing him to walk the flat bits but I still lifted him up the stairs. So by the time we reached the lookout I was exhausted carrier not only Zach up the stairs but at least another 5kg in my backpack.
We are the only ones camping here tonight and there are a few too many flies and mozzies so am glad we are moving on tomorrow.
