Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
I didn’t get much sleep last night because the wind made it feel like we had an earthquake for the entire night rocking the camper plus the wind was loud. So we packed up earlier then planned. Because it was so windy we decided not to look around but next visit we will walk to the next headland where reef sharks could be sighted and bat caves down the other end.
We stopped at Fruit Bat falls for a swim. We really ejoyed it here and may stop off on the way back again. The waters were perfect and it was great for the kids. It was shallow enough for Matt and I to walk across and very shallow near the falls so the kids could stand. You are able to go behind the falls and also on top of the falls there are potholes who can sit in.
We headed north and came across a water crossing we were warned about. It was quite long with murky water and Matt walked part of it until it started getting deeper. We were concerned about the water depth on the camper getting in because it hasn’t been tested before so decided to backtrack a little and come in from the north through another entry. As we turned down the road a cyclist came out and after a chat and a show of photos it was much better for
us to go back again and do the water crossing. We ended up following a tour bus through and they all got off the bus to watch and photograph us going through. Only had a slight drizzle get in the camper so we were happy with that.
We arrived at Eliot Camp (site 31 a good one :-)) and went for a drive to Canal Creek. I loved it here and it would be one of my favourite spots to camp up here. Most other camps aren’t right on the water but here you can camp right beside the creek. Great depth, crystal clear water for both adults and kids. tMy favourite is sitting in a natural spa with a waterfall on our back and bubbles coming up. Liam almost fell asleep on me he was so relaxed here.
We went to twin falls and had it to ourselves. Like fruit bat falls it is shallow enough to walk across to waterfall but wacth your legs on rocks below.
