Woke up to a beautiful sunny day and sat and had coffee outside watching the bay. After breakfast, Nick and Katharine went into Vincentia to do laundry and a grocery shop and I spent the morning doing schoolwork with the other three. They all did really well and Katharine joined in for an hour or two when she got back. We had lunch and then set off for Booderee National Park, about 20 minutes south of us. The National Park is part of Jervis Bay Territory, a federal territory managed by the ACT and a local aboriginal community. As a visitor we had to pay $11 to access the area but the park was well worth it. Our first stop was Green Patch, the most stunning beach we've seen so far. We had to walk through the bush to reach the beach so it seemed very quiet and secluded. It was a large horseshoe shaped beach with rocks at either side. We climbed over the nearest set of rocks and found lots of little black crabs. We could also see plenty of fish in the clear blue waters. The water felt really warm and it was still very sunny and warm so Nick went back to the car and got our bathers and we all had a swim - not bad for May! Katharine and I walked over the rocks to the next little beach and found a kangaroo and her joey, who didn't seem upset with us being there at all. Eventually we got back in the car and drove to Murrays Beach, another stunner with great views of Bowen Island. We explored some more rock pools and walked the beach then began the trip home. Before leaving, we drove through Jervis Bay, which had a small general store but was mainly residential houses. We also stopped off at Hyams Beach, a lovely little town with a great beach and some lovely old weatherboard cottages. It was after 4pm by the time we got home and the kids played outside until dinner was ready. The rabbits and possums came out after dinner and we fed them some celery and watched them hang upside down to eat it! Everyone went to bed fairly early and despite protests fell asleep instantly.
