Today I said a fond farewell to Acapulco and flew the 380km back to Mexico City!
Acapulco was a great place to just relax and really not do too much!! The weather was perfectly hot, and not a drop of rain fell whilst I was here!! The only terrible thing about Acapulco was the internet service!! It was fine for doing a few small things, but the minute you want to post a picture, scroll down on Facebook or heaven forbid try a search on google the wifi went into melt down!!! I learnt to accept it and move on!! First class problems hey!!!
The trip back to Mexico City was just a short 40 min flight... A lot better than the alternative of catching a bus back!! I've seen those buses arrive into the main drag if Acapulco, and it doesn't look like my idea of fun. Picture one of those clown cars, you know the tiny ones where about 20 clowns get out.... Now imagine the same thing with a bus, and about 200 people getting out!! Yep, 5 hrs of that no thanks!!! I'm happy with my plane trip thanks!!
So the plane was a little baby planelet!! At least it had engines and not propellers!! The downside was the turbulence we hit as we were coming into Mexico City!! Holy moly mother of god, it was a white knuckle special!! Now anyone who has flown with me knows that I'm a good flyer!! I'm one of those crazy people who actually secretly love that funny feeling in your stomach in turbulence!! This was a whole different story!! We were being thrown around like rag dolls!! Now that's the reason why you wear your seat belt in the plane people!!! There were lots of mexican's doing the signs of the cross and blessing themselves! Even the guy next to me who couldn't speak English got his message across by the looks on his face!! But if I was ever concerned about the skill of the aeromexican pilots before hand... I was more than happy with them once we landed!!
I caught a taxi from the airport to my hotel in Mexico City!! I knew I wasn't going to get ripped off as the taxi drivers aren't allowed to take fares from the airport. Everyone has to pre-pay their fare at a little booth at the airport and then give the receipt to the taxi driver!! I like the idea... I think it's a lot safer!!!
Well, I met speedy's long lost brother... Seems like he also has a job driving.... Except his job is to terrorise tourists trying to get from the airport to their hotels!! I have named him speedy the second!! I was surprised when he said that he could not drop me at the door of my hotel as it's a walk way only... Alright!! This isn't looking good!! So I took my two carry bags and my big case and walked about 50m up the road!! I now know why they call this the electronic zone!! Anything and everything electronic is sold here!! Just walking down this avenue was a reminder of my clubbing days!! Loud music blaring from speakers.... Strobe lights all thats missing is the alcohol!!!
I arrived at my hotel... Yeah this looks ok, and I actually mean on the badder side if ok!! Its definitely not like the beautiful places I have been staying at up until now. Then I got to my room!!! I just need to keep telling myself it's only a place to sleep!! I've gone from beach views to views of the side of another building!! Not the best place in the world, but it's a step up from the street!! I don't plan on spending much time there if you get my drift!! At least the sheets are clean!!
So here I am... Just had dinner and having a beer up at the bar!! Believe it or not I'm not the only one eating by themselves at the bar!! There's 2 other guys doing the same!! Both Mexican so I can't strike up a conversation with either of them!! Oh well!! I did however meet a couple of Australians behind me, who are volunteering in Central America!! They have been here for 5 months and go back in October! They also didn't speak a word of English... They said they still don't really!! It was really good to have a chat!!
Tomorrow I meet my new tour group!! I hope they're ok as I'm with them for 59 days!! That could be a very very long time!! Will keep you guys posted on group dynamics!!
