This morning we caught a taxi to the bus terminal!! The problem was we weren't sure which bus terminal to turn up to!! There were in fact two different bus terminals written on the bus ticket!! Your guess is as good as mine when it comes down to which one we need to go to!! As luck had it, we went to the right bus terminal the first time round!! Phew!
So we took a second class public bus from Merida to Chichen Itza - the only difference between the first class bus and the second class bus is the fact that it didn't have movies or a toilet on board!! It still had nice comfy chairs and air-con. So a very comfy ride. The ride took about 2.5 hrs. We did make quite a few more stops along the way!! Once we got to Chichen Itza, we put our big bags into storage and then went exploring at another one of the amazing Mayan ruins here in Mexico!!
Again the temperature was soaring with 110% humidity!! Hahahaha, everyone was just dripping walking around this place!!
I'm so glad I wasn't a Mayan living back then.... as they were brutal! It was all about sacrifice!! Taking human hearts while they were still beating, and beheading the captains head of the winning ball game team!! Hmmmm not my cup of tea! We also went to a cenote.... Now this to some may look like a massive water hole, but I ain't swimming in this water hole! As this is where archeologists found the remains of children sacrificed (only noble children born in the month of 5 days were sacrificed, it was a huge honour). So now maybe you can see why this is a no go zone for swimming!!!
Once we had finished at the ruins, we caught a first class bus to Cancun, which is 310km East of Merida. Cancun is located on the Carribean coast!! It is known as the place Americans come to play - and as Lisa our tour guide put it, the hotel zone is like Las Vegas on a beach.
We finally arrived in Cancun at 8.30! Just enough time to have a quick orientation walk around downtown Cancun! I can't wait to tell you what tomorrow will bring..... stay tuned!!
