Today I covered Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City! It is said to be the most beautiful street in Mexico City.
On my journey today I made many observations.
1: in Australia we do not utilise our car horns enough. Mexico City has shown me many uses for the car horn, and I'll be more than happy to use them when I get back!!
2: my Spanish is absolutely terrible!! I asked a police man if he could please point me in the direction of Paseo de la Reforma and pointed to some landmarks on my map! What I must have actually said was 'can you please point me in the opposite direction to these landmarks, and please make sure it is a dodgy part of town'. As you can imagine, I had an interesting few km of walking!! I knew it was time to turn back when a begging homeless man was pointing at my lucky travel charm bracelet and saying something in Spanish!!! My response, like always is 'no hablo espanol' crossed the street and return from the direction I came from!!
3: as my Spanish worked so well for me with directions, I thought best I not try it with street food!! With lots of pointing and 'si' or 'no' I managed to get something delicious for a late lunch!! If ever in doubt use mime!!!
4: when the cool breeze comes through, best you run for cover! Last night a cool breeze came through... Within 2 mins it was pelting down!! Luckily I made it back to my hotel just in time!!
5: Mondays must be clean up the city day! Garbage was collected, all the shop windows were getting washed, all of the footpaths were being mopped, monuments in the parks were pressure cleaned! Gees, and I complain about mopping the floors at home!!
All in all I had a great day!
