This morning we left Cancun, and made a 1hr bus journey to Playa del Carmen. Again, we had a very hot and humid day (sorry to all my Melbourne friends who are freezing right now!!). It wasn't until I walked to the bus station that I realised that I had seriously made the wrong decision to put my blue top on today, as it just showed the world how hot and sweaty I really was!!
Once we arrived we locked up our bags, and caught a bus straight to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum!! The most amazing thing about these ruins is their location!!! Friggen AMAZING!! Right on a cliff face facing the Caribbean Sea!!!
We explored around the site for a while and just enjoyed the breathless beach views!! Then the big decision came... Do we go back to Playa del Carmen main beach or do we try and find a beach closer to the ruins. We were told by a tourist guide that this public beach near the ruins was voted the 4th best beach in the world!! Hmmmm, do we believe him or not!! We decided to go for the public beach near the ruins and Richelle and I made the right choice!!! What we stumbled across was the most fantastic beach with hardly anyone on it!!
For less than $10 we got our own private cabana, with a beer and a cocktail!! Oh yes, this day was amazing!! We also managed to pick up some fresh coconut and mango as an afternoon snack!! Yummy!!
We had a good old chat to the cabana boys who wanted us to keep having shots with them after they finished work, but we were warned by our tour guide that we had an early start tomorrow with a very long day ahead, so wise not to have a hang over!! Instead we caught the last bus back to Playa del Carmen and met up with our group for dinner!! It was delicious.... seafood dinner right on Playa del Carmen main beach. This topped off a perfect day!
