Today I said goodbye to Mexico City (if only for a couple of days) and made my way 183km South to a place called Taxco!
One thing can be said about tours in Mexico City, is that they don't take a page out of Cousin Slow Pokes book. In fact they are always early! I got a call 30mins before my designated pickup time to say that my tour guide was in the foyer waiting for me!! Holy crap, I still had to check out!!
I bustled myself, and all of my luggage into the bus and we were off!! I officially met my tour guide Hector, who by all accounts (all his accounts of course) is a 60 yr old Mexican love god!! Our driver for the day, well let's just call him speedy Gonzales!
Now, I'm quite partial to getting to places quickly!! However, speedy took things to a whole new level!! The only way I can describe this to you, is think Great Ocean Rd at 100km/hr and that's how I got to Taxco!! Hell raising!! I was so tempted to rip the rosary beads off speedy's rear vision mirror just to get some additional help on board!!
Nothing quiet like overtaking trucks on the wrong side of the road round winding corners!!! I think speedy has a career in rally car driving, or at least on 'Ice road truckers'. Cause anyone who can drive a mini-bus full of people that fast without tipping it, has pure skill my friend!!
So first stop, ok our first stop was actually a dodgy truck stop to use the toilets so let's not count that one. Our official first stop was a little town called Cuernavaca, where we walked around a church! In saying that, it was a pretty cool church... It looked like a fortress!! Then back onto the bus and off to Taxco!! We stopped at a silver mine, where we were given shots of tequila (I'm guessing in the hopes of getting us to buy stacks of silver jewellery) and then off to Taxco Zocolo (town square) where we again... You guessed it looked round another church!! The town however is built on the side of a mountain, and all of the houses are made from white clay, with red roofs!! Very stunning to look at!!
My hotel for the night is set on top of a cliff over looking Taxco!! I had to catch a cable car up the cliff to get to my hotel!! Pretty cool (lucky I'm not afraid of heights). The room is great.... And I'm looking forward to sleeping in my king size bed tonight!!! Totally scoring big time with my hotels so far!! I'm just waiting for my luck to run out!!
