We left from our grassy spot in Timber Creek late morning and headed back on the Victoria Highway to Kununurra. Soon after we departed, we saw the turnoff to Gregory's Tree, which is a famous boab tree carved by the explorer Augustus Gregory over 150 years ago. The 3.5 km road in was unsealed so it was a bit slow with the van, and the flies were shocking but we had to visit just for the name of it!
We stopped at the NT/WA Border Quarantine Station. We had lunch there to eat some fruit and vegetables, but we still had to get rid of about 20 items, which wasn't so bad - other people had bags of stuff they wanted us to eat!
During the trip, we noticed some Brahman cattle in a single line along their fence parallel to the highway walking/jogging behind each other and we wondered what was going on. For the next 5 minutes we tried to find the 'leader' of the line of at least 500 cattle - eventually we found a pack of about another 500 cows around a waterhole which is where the line was heading - amazing!
We arrived at Kununurra around 2pm and checked into the Ivanhoe Caravan Park which is very pleasant. Renee & Eamon visited the pool, and then we headed to Visitor's Information in town. We had an hour before sunset, so we went to the Ord Diversion Dam to see the river downstream from the dam. Then we went to Kelly's k*** for a lovely view of the city of Kununurra just after sunset.
