After a warm night in the van, our air con guy from a few days ago came back at 7am to check out the situation. The pipe had cracked again, and he recommended a new unit rather than try to repair again, so we spent the morning in Kununurra talking to suppliers and installers at Broome (which is our next major destination) about our options for replacing the Dometic Air Conditioner with an Air Command Ibis one. We had a nice morning tea, got some more supplies, sorted out the aircon, then headed for Lake Argyle. We arrived around 1.30 pm - the sunset cruise was leaving at 2.30, so we booked it, docked the van, had some lunch, had a swim and made it back to reception in time.
Lake Argyle is the largest man-made dam in the world - it stretches 150km north to south, and is holds 20-odd times the volume of water of Sydney Harbour. The Sunset Magic cruise of Lake Argyle was fantastic. We were picked up at the caravan park by the bus right on 2.30, and taken to the launch boat a few hundred metres away. There were 3 couples, plus us on the boat, and Matt our guide, so just a small group. We cruised around the near the dam wall and spillway of the lake, and saw a couple of rock wallabies up close. It was a warm afternoon, so stopping for a swim in the middle of the lack was great - the water was magnificent - the kids loved diving off the front of the boat. We took a fast ride out further into the Lake and fed a couple of wallaroos on one of the many islands within the lake. Matt pointed out various birds, and finally we spotted a crocodile. We had great fun with the catfish and a spitting fish - they had a feeding frenzy! On our way back to the jetty, we had another swim (this time with a glass of champagne), and watched the sunset with some cheese and bickies.
Another warm night in the van, so we had our steak dinner in the camp kitchen.
