We departed Kalbarri around 9.30 for a long drive to Cervantes along the Indian Pacific Drive - a very picturesque ocean road - quite windy and very exposed. Actually, the wind has been non-stop for about 2 weeks now and we are over it! The sky is blue, but the wind chill factor is making things very cold, so Mum & Dad have brought out their jackets - lucky they didn't post them all back home!
Our highlight today was driving around Hutt Lagoon, Port Gregory's 'Pink Lake' - a naturally occurring phenomenon that occurs when algae 'blooms' and produces beta carotene. The colour was astonishing, and very pretty (and weird looking!). It took ages to get to Cervantes with lots of stops for various reasons along the way. We stopped at Northampton, a lovely quaint little village for morning tea, then a couple of toilet stops, petrol stop, lunch stop and also dropped into Jurien Bay to check it out. Finally, we arrived around 4pm at the Pinnacles Caravan Park.
While cooking dinner, we met Georgia & Andy from Sydney and got chatting - they too had befriended Joe & Trudy up at Red Bluff near Carnarvon last week, so we had a laugh about how small the world is on the road! After a long day, it was nice to have an early night, ready for our drive into Perth tomorrow (via the Pinnacles of course).
