After about 6 weeks of slight suffering with fantasies of authentic Mexican food (tacos al pastor, enchiladas con salsa verde, chilaquiles)... my dreams have come true. Well, almost. I found a Mexican restaurant with the secret= CORN! They make corn tortillas and chips to tacos, nachos and other genius Mexican glories. They even have guacamole. Dont get me wrong, it´s not exactly the same but it´s close enough. Desperate times call for desperate measures lol.

I had a nice in-depth conversation with the chef about how Mexicans use corn, the magic of a Mexican Señora´s handmade tortillas and how Brazil just isn´t with it. He used to spend a lot of money to import the right type of corn flour from Mexico (something apparently I´ve been really spoiled with because I can find it at any grocery store in San Diego and it´s cheap!). But now he found one man - ONE MAN- who works very had to make his own corn flour as similar as he can to Mexico´s. He unfortunately only sells tortillas and flour in bulk to restaurants but Im thinking about just buying tortillas "to-go" from the restaurant (gotta work the system). But this helpful chef did give me a tip. This guy (Gary) also makes tortillas chips (aah glorious tortialla chips, brings back memories of Alfredo and I buying our one-pound bag and it barely lasted a week) and they sell them in one market.

Yep, you guessed it. I went to that one market and found myself some "Garytos" (a play on Doritos). It´s a pretty small bag (compared to my usual pound) but I was pretty extatic. Now I´m ready to buy some cheese and refried beans and onions and tomatoes. Oh yeah... you know what Im talkin´´bout: Nachos Supreme.

Dont get me wrong, I really like Brazilian food and Im satisfied with all their delicious meat dishes, fresh fruits and coconut water right out of the coconut. But... it just can´t compare. So in conclusion, I was loving Brazil before but I will love it that much more with some corn tortillas!!
