Today we made the move from Fukuoka to Tokyo, our final stop for the journey. The train ride took about 7 hours so we were up bright and early at ten to six. Yikes! On the plus side we didn't have to fight any crowds on our walk to the station and we got to see the sun rise. I got some pretty cool pictures from the train actually.
It was around 2pm when we arrived in Tokyo and we easily made our way to the hostel via subway. Our hostel is located right behind a small amusement park (the oldest one in Tokyo in fact) and we have a pretty sweet view from our balcony of Tokyo Sky Tree, a temple, a five storey pagoda and the amusement park. Basically sums up Tokyo for you.
For the arvo we strolled over to Tokyo Sky Tree, going through the temple grounds on the way. In the temple grounds there were a bunch of food stalls set up so we bought some fried chicken, pumpkin/sweet potato fried buns and the most delicious BBQ'd pork belly. OMG, so have to go back and get some more of that before we go home.
It took about 20mins to walk to the Sky Tree and when we got there it was crowded as f***. Honestly. It took us forever to find Starbucks to buy a coffee and then there were no seats in Starbucks so we had to sit outside in the cold. Then we saw a sign that said it wouldn't be until 7:30pm before getting to the top of the Sky Tree if we bought a ticket then, because there was a huge wait list. So we decided not to bother about all that seeing as it was only around 4pm.
On our way back to the hostel we noticed a sign for a cat cafe so we popped in there for a nice hour's visit. There were about 10 cats in total and some of them were funny and enjoyed getting their bums pat. It was funny.
After that we retuned to the hostel and washed some clothes. For dinner we found a ramen restaurant. It was a miso soup based one and we both thought it was pretty ordinary.
Unfortunately this hostel doesn't have public baths so we had to settle for hot showers before heading to bed. Honestly, I don't know how they expect me to survive under these conditions.
