This morning we tried to have a bit more of a sleep in so that we would stay out a bit later. We've been coming home most nights at 7pm and then going to bed because we were exhausted from walking around. So this morning we had a late one and left the hostel around 10am.
We took a few trains to a place called Musashi-Koganei which was about 20mins out of Tokyo city. We then took the bus about 5km to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum. It only cost ¥400 to get in and we were able to explore the museum which was about 20 or so buildings that represented different historical buildings from across Japan. It was like a historical display village! You could walk into all of the buildings and houses and explore most of the rooms. There were smaller farmhouses as well as merchant shops and larger homes of upper class people. Some of the houses were actually relocated from their original locations which was pretty awesome. My favourite place was a house from the 1940s that was all windows down one side and had a beautiful open living area with a loft mezzanine. It was beautiful.
We had udon for lunch at the museum which was probably the best udon I've ever had. And because we were there for so long we even had afternoon tea at a cafe at the museum where I had some cheesecake and we both had cafe lattes served in bowls.
At around 4pm we took the bus back to the station and then caught two trains to get to a place called Shimo-Kitazawa. I'd read it was supposed to be a hipster like town with lots of small boutique shops. We strolled around for a while but didn't feel like looking in too many places. We had ramen again for dinner and then had croissant taiyaki for dessert. I had custard filled and Shannon had apple and cinnamon so we both had very happy tummies afterwards.
We did a bit more strolling before heading to Shinjuku. We walked around there and considered going to see a movie but the session times didn't really line up. Although weirdly it seemed they had sessions starting as late, or early, as 2am! Crazy!
We caught the train home around 8pm and watched an episode of Jessica Jones on the surface. Time to settle in for another night now. Tomorrow it's Shannon's turn to decide what we do, seeing as I had the reigns today.
