Last night we had another good sleep in our snug little semi-double bed and were up around 8am to face the day. We showered, dressed and then headed down to have breakfast at the hostel cafe again.
Today was Ghibli Museum day so we took a few trains to get to Mitaka and, after a km walk down a very Autumn looking river way, we arrived at 10:30am. It seemed like a good time to arrive because there wasn't a huge line to get in. You aren't allowed to take any pictures inside the museum but the ticket they give you is actually a short of film from one of their many movies which is a cool memento. Shannon got one from Princess Mononoke. We couldn't work out what movie mine was from though.
The museum was pretty cool. The building is very interesting with rooms all over the place and bridges going across the atrium and other weird features. The exhibits included a strobe light spinning thing of figurines which made them look like they were actually moving as well as sketches of artwork from the films and a catbus and rooftop garden. There was also a 15min film to watch in the theatre about a puppy named Koro. It was in Japanese but it was easy to understand what was going on. There was a small gift shop as well that was packed full of people but Shannon managed to worm his way through and buy some cool pins and movie film.
After the museum we made our way back along the river to the station. At the station we bought some bakery treats for lunch which were okay but not custard filled which was a tad disappointing.
We had taken a 101 things to do in Shinjuku brochure when we left the hostel so we went to Shinjuku. Unfortunately we didn't read the brochure until we were there and it was mostly filled with food related things which wasn't much good to us. We had a coffee at the Square Enix cafe before deciding to go back to Ikebukuro.
At Ikebukuro we went to Sunshine City and strolled around the shops for a while. We thought about going to the aquarium but it was ¥2000 and 4pm by that time so we didn't think it would be worth it. We were going to head back to the hostel when we decided to go into a gaming arcade. We played one game of Mario Kart and then whilst Shannon played a robot game, I had my first go at Purikura. They are basically photo booths that have beautifying effects and make your eyes look all huge. Some of my photos were a bit ordinary because I moved too soon. After the photos are taken you move into the effects parlour to add words or more makeup and other things. It took me a while to actually work out where the parlour was and by then Shannon had joined me so he helped me edit the photos. All in all they are pretty funny. So over the top and hilarious. I can't wait to try more!
After the gaming arcade it was a suitable time for dinner and we caught the train back to Jimbocho and found a CoCo Ichi for some curry and rice. I ordered a side salad too because I've been feeling a bit flat lately and thought it might've been due to a lack of vegetables.
Our feet are both pretty sore from all the walking so we are back in the hostel for an early night and to do some planning for tomorrow. We are going to activate our rail passes tomorrow so perhaps we'll go on a bit of a day trip somewhere? Who knows?
