We started our day off with another ¥350 breakfast at the hostel whilst we planned out our attack for the day. We were going to spend the day in Shinjuku but as we couldn't book in to go to the robot restaurant until tomorrow we decided to postpone our trip until then to avoid doubling up.
Instead, as it was a beautiful clear day, we made our way to Asakusa and the Tokyo Skytree. When we came to Japan two years ago it had only just opened and was crazy busy so we didn't end up going up the tower so we thought we'd give it another try today.
The train trip there was smooth and brought back memories of our last visit because we had stayed in Asakusa back then. Asakusa looked so different this time though because it wasn't covered in snow. We casually made our way to the Skytree by foot and proceeded to join the 45-60min long line to buy tickets to get to the top. It took about 45mins to get our tickets and then we ascended the tower to the 350m high floor in the 50 second lift. It was packed on the viewing deck and was quite unpleasant due to the crowds and no where to sit. We took a few photos of the view and decided we had had enough. All in all, it wasn't worth the ¥2400 and we'll be telling people that.
After coming back down in the lift we tried to find somewhere to eat in the building but there was lines everywhere. So instead we took three trains to get back to Akihabara.
At Akihabara we had some delicious ramen to fill our bellies before exploring some of the shops we remembered well from last time. Unfortunately once again we were bombarded with crowds and it wasn't long before we wanted to escape back to our hostel.
We rested in the hostel for an hour or so until our tummies started to rumble. We stayed in Ikebukuro for dinner and walked a few metres from our hostel to Yayoiken where we had some really satisfying set meals.
Seeing as we felt refreshed from our rest we headed out into the cool night air to check out the shops in the area. We weaved in and out of 7 storey stores and made a few purchases.
It wasn't long before our feet started to remind us of the amount of walking we'd done today and our cramping toes forced us to make our way back home. We stopped along the way for donuts and aisu kohii.
Tomorrow we are definitely going to Shinjuku which we are quite excited about as we haven't spent much time there in our previous visits.
