We had a super laid back day today. We've been feeling very lazy lately and we've had a bit of bad luck with sights and attractions in Osaka so I suppose we feel disheartened because of that.
We left the hostel at around 10am and made our way to Osaka station. We had decided to go see a movie so we had some breakfast at a bakery (where I had this delicious sweet mochi? bun that was so soft and pillowy) and then went up to the cinema.
We saw Gone Girl which we both thought was pretty good and I thought it delivered the book well. In Japan they have this nice thing where they don't turn the lights in the cinema on at the end until the credits have run which I think is really nice because you are appreciating the people behind the scenes that have worked hard.
After that we had some ramen for lunch where I tried a tofu dessert as well which was tasty. Then we strolled around the streets a bit. Mostly everything was closed for the New Years period which was a bit disappointing because we still had some souvenirs to buy.
We went back to the hostel at around 5:30pm and then hung out in the common room for a few hours. At around 7pm the American guys we'd made friends with came in and joined us and we played Jenga for a bit. They were going to go out to karaoke with us for New Years but they had a few too many beers early on and they bailed on us and went to bed. So that was disappointing.
We went out and got some delicious pizza for dinner instead and then when we got backup to the hostel there were a fair few people hanging out in the common room. We sat in there and chatted and made some friends and had a few drinks. One guy played some tunes and sang on his guitar for a bit and then at midnight they served up some soba noodles to eat for good luck.
It wasn't quite the New Years we had pictured but I enjoyed the laid back vibe and now we probably won't even have hangovers! Everyone left soon after 12am to go to the temple to make a wish but we were two tired and had already planned to go to a shrine tomorrow.
Tomorrow is our last day in Japan! It's quite sad and has gone so fast! Shannon and I have been saying that the last Japan trip was better but we'll see how we feel when we get back to reality!
