Last time we went along the jetty we took the train. As it was cloudy and cooler today we decided to walk to the end and back. It is one mile long but the original jetty was longer.
The jetty was originally built to take the boats for the timber trade. Mick remembers the timber yard and the jetty. A fire and a cyclone destroyed most of the jetty and a new one was built. The Interpretative Centre at the start of the jetty was built in the style of old beach huts.
We resisted a Simmo's ice cream but had a milkshake instead which was equally delicious. After a walk round town we are sandwiches opposite the swimming area watching school children having their swimming lessons. It was great being on the outside looking in!!
I took Sam for another walk along the beach and she is walking much better on the lead. Rather than walking behind me and pulling she is now walking at my side or ahead and not pulling on the lead. She is learning to 'wait' at the road and 'come' when it is clear. Barbara Woodhouse here I come!

Jenny Apologies to Sam. I have been calling her a he. But as she is so well behaved Sam is obviously a female. It is great that when they build the new some of the old style remains. Just keep watching the children, don't get involved. It is half-term here next week so time for us to avoid child friendly places.
