Fraser and I spent the morning doing schoolwork before we visited the nearby Space and Technology Museum opened by Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin in 2012. The centre had lots of displays about space travel and exploration which were possible due to the scientists and tracking facilities in Carnarvon. The lunar module simulator was very noisy and squishy for us all to fit into - Fraser and I had to share a seat.

The road north to Point Quobba took about an hour to travel and we arrived to find the blowholes working really well. We took many photos and were amazed at the puddles of salt in the rocks. After a picnic lunch we kayaked and snorkelled at a protected bay just south of the blowholes - the fish and coral were very colourful, Dad spied some budgies and the bird tally has now reached 150. We also so saw a turtle and a big clam.

We collected mail from the post office, visited the information centre and waited for Fraser to have a haircut. Mum eventually found a coffee spot near the harbour. In the afternoon we went fishing along One Mile Jetty, and after getting some prawns from other fishers had great fun catching good size bream, big enough to jump out of our bucket! The walk back along the jetty in the dark was across the mangroves which were full of mozzies.

With a tail wind and Mum driving we make it to Carnarvon in good time and set up before lunch. The town is still recovering from cyclone Olwyn and many piles of debris remain to be cleaned up. The tomato and banana crops are thriving although it will take at least 2 years for production to return to normal - the local farms supply 80% of WA's fruit and vegies. Chocolate coated frozen bananas are a local favourite!

Happy Mother's Day. After making Mum breakfast we headed to Oceanpark Aquarium about 10 km south of town. The tour of the various tanks and the outside lagoon was very interesting - I liked the turtles best. We stayed for lunch and the food was great. To finish the day we fished along the beach near the caravan park and caught 10 whiting for dinner.
