On the hunt for more redclaw crayfish, we headed to Yungaburra on Lake Tinaroo. The caravan park was right on the lake side and Allen took the boat off the car and loaded it with nets to set them for our catch. Day 1....nothing. Day 2......five. Day 3......a few tiny ones. Oh well pack the boat up and load the van and we will try somewhere else.
While the nets are out on the lake we toured the area. There is a Platypus viewing area where ususally you can see a platypus but not me, nothing. We then drove to Curtain Fig Tree which was amazing and photos dont show the enormity of this tree and the root curtain. There were supposedly tree kangaroo in the area but could I see one, no not me.
The town is quaint. The post office a little house, the hotel really old is just being renovated in the main bar but the outside is to remain as is.
There is one special part of this area. It is an Avenue of Honour established as a memorial of those who have fought and died in Afghanistan. It is really special. Again photos dont do it justice but we took a few to try to show the amount of effort that has gone into it. It is in a parkland lakeside with lots of seating for visitors to sit and reflect. There is one of a metal cutout of a dog (see photos) and the description states it is to remember bomb detection dogs lost in Afghanistan. We also noticed that on the list of soldiers there were five from the SAS (Allens old unit).
We really enjoyed this area. Off now westward, we have to be in Carnarvon by 13th July 2014. Better get our skates on eh!
