After leaving Toowoomba we travelled south back to Texas where Allen had arranged for some electrical work to be done on the car and van with a guy that seems to know his stuff. It only took us two and a half hours and we were back in our lovely camp spot near the river. They had had some rain and the area was green again. We quite like Texas, small place but has everything.
Work done and off we go to Yelarbon where we thought we might stay but on arriving there we decided it wasnt worth staying so headed to Goondiwindi! Well what a lovely surprise. I thought this place would be dry outback style town but boy was I wrong. It is lovely, lush and green, and BIG! They have everything here. It is great place. We visted the visitor information centre and they said we could park in the large ashphalt area next to the bowling club as it is half owned by the town and half by the club. Perfect says Al, looks like we are staying an extra day for bowls! The river is right behind us and it is banked by beautiful gnarly gum trees. The forshore is amazing. Lush green grass and gardens that are all reticulated. The Jacarandas are just starting to flower. The bird life is prolific and I managed to photograph two Kookaburras this morning. Picnic tables under the trees invite people to spend time in this lovely place.
As I look at the window of our caravan, I see the bowling green so when Allen plays this afternoon, I will be able to watch from here! Right next to the bowling green is a Helipad. Down town a bit is a picnic water park area where swimming is permitted in the river and the amenities block includes showeres so we can go for a hot showere there as long as it is before 8pm as they close the gates at that time.
