Coen was the easy target today - no more than 200km. The road is excellent - much better than expected & we reached Coen by noon. Bush camped on the Coen River - a great spot! Told embarrassing stories about ourselves round the camp fire - I had plenty to tell. Have met 2/3 people returning from the Tip & the consensus is that the OTT Is not possible without winching. S&B left their caravans at the CP & are tenting it for the next 2 weeks. We traveled about 230km up the PDR camping at the Morehead River crossing. Today & probably tomorrow are about dealing with corrugations & getting to Archer River. It is hot & dry & the bush is uninteresting. Filled up at Laura where diesel was $1.69.

The Peninsula CP is a pleasant place to camp. The huge paperbarks with a high canopy deliver superb filtered light. We like it here. So much that we plan to revisit on our way back! Well we are in Cooktown! Been an easy day & arrived around 12.30. Setup camp in pleasant, treed & quiet area. S&Y are close to the amenity block so they are happy too! Had a look around the place. Departed J's at 7.30 amid heavy mist & fog. The views over Lake Tinaroo were spectacular. As it was only 120km to Mt Malloy to meet up with S&Y, I was able to check out the Danbulla Forest including the Cathedral Fig & Mobo Creek Crater.
