Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
Whilst at Winton, we drove to Lark Quarry - another 110km on dirt to the really excellent site of the dinosaur stampede 95 million years ago. The guide was excellent and made it so that we could actually imagine how it all unfolded. This area at that time was just 20km from the seas and was on the edge of a lake - 2 herds of smaller dinosaurs, one the size of a chicken and the other the size of fully grown emus were drinking. A large allosaur (like t-rex) stalked them - they were trapped on the lake edge and then wheeled round to bolt back past the allosaur, no evidence that he caught one, though it is likely and makes the story better! There are 3300 prints that have been uncovered. Really excellent site.
