Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
Not a particularly good photo - but it is proof that we saw platypus - in fact we saw many....they are just rather quick and my zoom is not too powerful. I took better video as that does have a better zoom on it. They are rather gorgeous and we saw many - we also saw some playing chasings in circles and learnt that this is a mating game. An egg is laid in the burrow after 10 days and 20 days later it hatches. It feeds on mothers milk until weaning at 3.5 months and then is thrust out into the real world and is 70 percent adult size at that stage. They live for about 12 years and are very prevalent in this area of Qld - it was great to see them. We also did some lovely walks in the National park and saw platypus away from the viewing platform also. It has had 65 inches of rain since 1/1/06!! So lots of water here.
