We have come to the end of our wonderful trip after 189 days or 27 weeks and 32,000km. The trip cost roughly $220 per day with the major expenses being the combination of fuel and car (service, new tyres, windscreen, excess etc). We did however spend more on food than on fuel, so it is interesting to note that it costs more to fuel 5 bodies than 1 landcruiser. We returned home in time for the kids to spend a couple of days back at school telling their friends and classmates all about their trip. It was good closure for them as we will not be returning to the school in 2007, but at school in Macau, China. We had a little welcome back/farewell drinks party and celebrated Christmas with both families and had a truly lovely time. Who knows what next Christmas will bring. It was absolutely great to catch up with our very good friends Trish McPherson and Paul Bridge at their vineyard Indigo Ridge at Orange. We camped amidst the vines and enjoyed a wonderful dinner and shared some lovely wines. We drove back to Sydney via Broken Hill as Cath had always wanted to come here due to the fact that in the 1950s for a short time her Dad was a flying doctor here. We did in fact have a very interesting visit at the RFDS, but there are no archives or records to look up his tenure here. However you may not know that your $A20 is dedicated to the RFDS. Adelaide is a really pretty city and we have packed a lot into 2 days here. We visited the Rodney Fox Shark Experience - he is now a shark advocate despite surviving an horrific attack in the 1960s when he was 23. It was most interesting in a macarb sort of way.
