Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
We did a day trip to Port Douglas and Mossman. Port Douglas had changed beyond anything I recognised from 15 years ago - it must have been a different town I went to. I couldn't find anything to recommend it now really. However we went on to Mossman Gorge, which must be the most accessible and beautiful gorge in the area. There was a traffic jam to get in if you can believe it!! The walks are all easy and short and you can swim in the river (which we did - though it must have been 12 degrees - very chilly!). The most amazing thing was how clear the water is. You could just see right through it as if it wasn't there. The trees too are quite magnificent with huge buttress roots and lots of strangler vines. We saw one that the original tree had decayed and disappeared and the vine was left with a hole right through the middle where the tree once was. Mossman is truly lovely and it suited a drissly day as that is what the Wet Tropics is.....wet!!
