Thursday
There was a light sprinkle of rain last night and it's still grey and overcast this morning. The forecast is for rain in Weipa. We pack up and leave around the usual time - 9am. Across the bridge at Archer River and along the dusty road to Coen. It is bitumen in a number of places now - I wonder how long before the whole development road will be done.
We got stuck behind an erratic Prado driver who liked the idea of swerving across the whole road deliberately to make as much dust as possible. No choice but to slow down to put a huge gap in front of us to allow the dust to settle. Other than that we had a good trip so we ploughed on through Coen and went straight to Weipa.
This is a nice caravan park with a lovely pool and close to Woolworths. The toilets/ shower are cleaned 3 times a day due to the red dirt (or by the time it's in the amenities red mud). We decided not to do the mine or wildlife tour and opted to wash instead. We had a lazy afternoon catching up on emails, bills and phone calls now that we have service. Had a home cooked dinner and a late night for us at 10.30pm.
