26/5 Thursday Turiñán Peninsular and back to Lires circa 15km
In Muxia I learned there was a long coastal walk, 200km along the “Coast of Death”. Some of the detail confirmed it ran parallel to the Camino here but always very close to the coast. It included the Touriñán peninsula, near here, which is Spain’s most westerly mainland point.
The trail actually runs around the peninsula and then to Lires so I decided on a day to explore, taking a taxi out to the edge of the peninsula and then walking the trail from there.
The headland was quite exhilarating being buffeted by waves and with me buffeted by strong winds. There were a couple of cars at the lighthouse so not entirely deserted. However, I didn’t meet anyone between the lighthouse and the 7km to Nemiña where the long beach towards Lires begins.
I stopped here and found some shade for lunch where I was befriended by Jet the dachshund/ Jack Russell cross even before I opened the ham packet. It was quite a camper can and surfer spot. I had a quick coffee when the bar opened and had a quick chat to a guy called Rob who was following this coastal route.
Then it was shoes off and a long beach paddle towards Lires before cutting inland for the last hot couple of km. I was very glad to shower and find some shade.

Lynn Pickles Wonderful - what a journey. If you could choose a place to take Jill to, where would it be and for what reason?
Dave The coast near Santander because it was spectacular and I know Jill likes wild coastal scenery.
