25/5 Wednesday Muxia to Lires 13kmI spent a couple of days winding down in Muxia. I probably did what most peregrinos do - wandered along the coast, had a swim, went up to the headland for sunset.
Tanya arrived on my first full day and we had a spaghetti carbonara cookery lesson from three Italian guys. Slightly chaotic in a cramped kitchen with them all getting involved. Still the result was pretty good!
This morning I set out looking forward to three more days walking. The route to Lires was mostly through woodland and the occasional hamlet and there were no shops or bars the whole way.
I met and walked with Brits Mary and Ian for a short while. Lunch was sitting on a rock in the shade and then before long I was walking into Lires where my bag had not caught up with me.
Fortunately Lires has at least four restaurants as it is the only break point between Muxia and Finisterre so it provides for pilgrims going either way. By the time I'd had a coffee and a cold drink my bag had arrived so I sorted my bed but with quite a chunk of afternoon available I decided to walk a couple of km along the river estuary to the sea where there were lovely views along the coast in both directions. North was a very long, deserted sandy beach whilst south was a more rugged rocky coastline with beaches between headlands.
I hadn't really eaten much during the day so I was looking forward the evening meal. But before then my Camino friend Tatjana arrived from Finisterre going in the opposite direction to me. We had a drink together and then I was off to get out of my walking clothes and shower.
I was sitting outside trying to phone Jill when Ian and Mary were heading out and they were good enough to invite me for a drink and we ended up eating together. LiresCa proved a great choice as we shared three dishes and all agreed we'd had the best meal of our respective caminos -griddled vegetables, slow cooked pork with fries and monkfish with scallop skewers, delicious.

Graham That meal sounds amazing Dave and the photo looks beautiful. Well done for all you have achieved I am so impressed with your determination. Really looking forward to seeing you, as soon as we can, upon your return.
Lynn Pickles Thanks for taking us not only along the journey, but also documenting all the interactions you had with fellow walkers. Another friend is in the final editing stages of a 9 hour documentary where she follows several pilgrims on the walk. Like you, she highlights the kindness of strangers and the friendliness of residents along the route. Your blog described foods too...obviously a highlight as was the hospitality you enjoyed at the various overnight accommodations. Wish I could join you and the Lees as you recount your journey.
