25/4 Monday Llanes to Nueva 18km
I left the Albergue after a good breakfast with Franco still pondering his feet. I found a supermarket and bought bread, tomatoes and fresh fruit.
Leaving Llanes I watched an old guy playing Greensleeves with what looks like a violin between his knees.
Immediately beyond Llanes I find a country lane and beautiful mountain scenery to the left, cows and cow bells to the right.
First village along the way was Poo, I didn’t feel the need! The path then turns towards the sea. I soon spot a small beach with a picnic table down below and take a slight detour off the Camino to enjoy a rest with a view. I send a message to Franco telling him about the detour. Two minutes after I send a message there is Franco shouting me and coming down the hill. He hasn’t even seen the message! We seem to be together again at Playa de San Martin.
We continued and after a total of 8 km reached Playa de Barro. This looked a perfect place for lunch. I made a cheese sandwich and Franco had a croissant that he’d saved from breakfast.
We were soon on the move again, joined by George from Serbia, as we walked along the edge of the Ria de Barro with lovely views of the local church (Iglesia de Niembro) across the water.
Close to the main highway and the coast I recognise San Antolín beach from when Jill and I travelled in the area many years ago. It was beautiful but deserted today.
Inland again we stopped for a beer at a cideria in a village called Naves. Only about 5 km more then for me from here. Franco decided to press on and planned to walk for another three hours to a distant albergue.
Franco and I had clearly made a good connection and said fond goodbyes in Nueva where I headed off to find my accommodation for the night.

Lynn Pickles You are having a wonderful time … meeting fellow pilgrims! Perhaps your blog will become as well read as Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales! Your map shows a huge detour… maybe a town with a similar name?
