When sailing, history has taught sailors to be flexible, when planing a destination we always write in our log books towards then the name of the hopeful port. Well last night I wrote Towards Christianö an island 11 miles off the much larger island of Bornholm a distance of 44 NM. We had a very good sail for 35 NM in about a F 4 then the winds went crazy up to 31 knots, with 2 reefs and half a Genoa we were still seeing speeds in the high 8 s. When off the island we could see the breaking waves crashing on to the rocks on either side of the very narrow entrance. Most yachts come to grief either going in or out of harbours in rough seas so reluctantly we sailed straight past, we needed a harbour in the lee of land not a weather shore so that's how we ended up in Svaneke a further 11 NM away, we ended up sailing 57 NM. The harbour was very full so we tied up along side a 50 ft Sunseeker much to the annoyance of the Swedish skipper, the first unpleasant Swede we have met this year, we stayed despite him saying he had friends coming along side later (they never came) then he said we could not walk over his clean decks and that we should try to get over the obstacle course that was his swim platform. We just went to bed as we were very tired and left him to it.
Day 2
Brenda woke up sick not sure why she has eaten the same as me, she has spent most of the day in bed. Still gusty winds and rain in the morning so not much to get up for, lovely sunny afternoon and evening.
