Breakfast at 9am after a small sleep-in then caught the metro to Colosseo station to see the Colosseum.
We queued up for a few minutes before paying €8 each for a ticket which also included entry to Palatine Hill. Spent an hour or so wandering around the colosseum which was huge. Took plenty of photos and video before departing.
Passed the Arch of Constantine heading for Palatine Hill, the political centre of Ancient Rome, which had great views over the Roman Forum.
We walked on further to Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano Building which was built to commemorate the declaration of the Italian republic. The locals think it looks like a large typewriter. Kept moving, this time to the Pantheon.
We had lunch before taking a look inside to see the amazing domed ceiling with a hole in the middle. Rain that fell through the hole went down drains in the centre of the floor. Hard to believe
it was built so long ago!
Continued on to the famous Trevi Fountain. Very hard to photograph as it was in a small square but we did manage to throw a coin over our shoulder into the fountain to ensure a return to Rome someday.
We returned to our hotel for a rest before setting out for dinner at 5.30pm. We ate at the same Chinese restaurant we ate at a few days before because the food was good and cheap! We met another Australian couple who had been on their honeymoon for 3.5 months! We shared stories of our adventures and we recommended they visit the Crypt of the Capuccini Monks, they suggested we visit the Trastevere area of Rome.
Back to the hotel at 10.20pm to pack for our departure the next morning.
