After breakfast we walked to the nearby Dublin City Tour bus stop and after buying a ticket for €10 each we caught the bus to the Dublin Tourist Centre to buy an Irish Heritage Pass and tickets to the Guinness Hopstore tour. Paid €19 each for the heritage pass which got us into a lot of sites around Ireland on our trip and €10.50 each for the Guinness tickets.
Caught bus to Trinity College and had a quick look around. Didn't see the library or the Book of Kells so there was really nothing else of note to see.
Back on the bus and off to Dublin Castle for an interesting tour of the castle. Our tour guide was very good and told a few stories about the history of the castle. We had lunch at a sandwich bar near the castle. It was good to find a sandwich shop where you get to choose what you want in it rather than pre-prepared sandwiches. Caught the bus to Guinness Hopstores for a tour.
The tour was a little disappointing, an over-the-top sound and light show with very little about the history of Guinness or the brewing process. The main drawcard was the pint of Guinness included in the admission price and the excellent views of Dublin from the Gravity Bar at the top of the storehouse.
Caught the bus further on to Kilmainham Gaol. The tour was a little long-winded and included a film/slide show in the old chapel which told about the history and occurrences in the gaol.
Caught the bus back to O'Connell Street passing by the zoo, Phoenix Park and Jameson distillery. Had dinner at McDonalds while we waited for the last bus at 6.30pm for one last lap of the city. Walked back to hotel for a coffee and to watch some soccer on TV.
