So I feel an update is needed. Well my week has been average at best!
I have been working all week. I think most of you know I work in a greek deli, which is really hard work, and I am not particularly enjoying it because I keep doing things wrong and feeling stupid. Then again I think to myself that at least I am lucky to have a job because so many travellers are really struggling at the moment.
The house is interesting to say the least I think I have told most of you about it, but for those of you who haven't I will tell all in 3 weeks time when I move out. I can't post it now because my luck will be that I get kicked out should the owners read it. I cant however mention my friend AY UP, aka the Turkish physco who is reaching new levels of insanity each day, I am actually thinking of writing a book of short stories about his daily madness.
-Thursday for example, ay up came into the kitchen for an afternoon snack consisting of a whole loaf of spinach and cheese bread. Whilst eating the bread he stared out of the kitchen window and just laughed to himself. Then during dinner ( which is actually tea/ evening meal) just 2 hours later he manages to wolf down 3 chicken legs, rice, and a piece of lemon cake topped with cream cheese sauce , which were indecently all on the same plate together??? Yum yum
- Yesterday I came home to find him watching Gladiator, a seemingly normal activity. However I had to leave the room in fear when he burst into fits of hysterics during the end scene where Gladiator iskilled.
- As I type he is sat on the balcony behind me, on his own. Having a full blown argument with himself, including wrist actions.
I cant tell you how amusing it is, but I do feel a bit sorry for him.
Today I went to meet a ouch surfing friend Elisa for an event that is part of the Food and Wine festival in Melbourne. The festival is a month long here with lots of courses, talks and demos, however most of the events are very overpriced. Today the free festivalwas specialising in coffee, cheese and chocolate today and basically was just loads of stalls. I was disappointed by the lack of free samples I must admit, it was not a patch on Abergavenny festival particularly in terms of cheeses. There were a few cool things though, including a 3 course smell meal where you had to sit down and instead of tasting the food you actually smelt it. There was also this chocolate company which did the most amazing things with chocolate, like beautiful sculptures and flowers etc. My personally favourite was a chocolate pig!
Had the weather been nicer ( it has piddled down really badly all weekend) it would have been a really ncie day out as there were bands etc playing. However because of the weather we had to call it a day early.
The only other notable event of my week has been my trip to an AFL game in the (was Telstra) now Etihad dome. I felt that as I was in the sporting capital I should see at least one game. The game was the final of the pre-season between Geelong and Collingwood. The stadium wasn't totally full but there was a pretty good atmosphere. From what I could gather Geelong won the game, but to be honest its such a weired game I don't really know what was going on. Never mind I have been which is another thing to cross of the list.
I will only be in Melbourne for the max of a month now. My plan is to work hard for 3 weeks then finish work a week early and head into the city to do a bit more. Everyone raves about Melbourne and there are areas that I love, there are loads of restaurants and cafes and now that I am starting to like pubs and bars a bit more I would be up for going out and experiencing the different things. But because of where I live and not having many people here it feels like I am missing out- I think I am just frustrated. I wish in a way I had like another 4 months here, that way I would look to move house and job and try again. Never mind though, I have booked my trip down to Adelaide and then I will start again.
I hope everyone is well. Myself and ay up would like to thank you for taking the time to read about our adventures!
