Day 53 - Cape Range National Park (Bungarra)
After a very windy night we were up early again to make the most of the mild mornings. We drove to the Oyster Stacks and were hoping to go snorkelling but the tide wasn’t high enough. While we were admiring the water we saw some fish and a little black tip reef shark.
The travelling family that we caught up with yesterday met us there and we decided to go to Turquoise Bay instead. It was nice and sheltered from the wind and the water is such a gorgeous colour. The kids had a quick swim and we saw some turtles but we had to get back to our caravan as we had to move sites again. As we were about to drive into our campground we saw a dingo walking in the middle of the road.
We quickly hitched on then left Kurrajong at 10:15am and headed south to Bungarra Campsite (we are on site 2)
We quickly got set-up and the wind was still mild so we went to Osprey Bay to go snorkelling. Another beautiful spot. Bronte played in the sand while we went snorkelling. We had to swim out a little way and then we started seeing some massive fish and some beautiful coloured fish and clown fish. Josh found a batfish. Then I spotted a sea turtle and it kept coming up beside me - I was very excited trying to call the boys over to me but at the same time Josh also had a sea turtle next to him. By the time I got to Josh his turtle had gone. The tide was pretty strong and we had swum out pretty far so we thought we better head back in.
Josh stayed to play with Bronte in the sand while Rog and I had a snorkel. The tide was strong so we didn’t go out too far but the snorkelling was great but then it was just the two of us in the water so we went back to shore.
We then had a swim with Bronte then the kids kept playing in the sand while Rog and I walked around to Sandy Bay. As we walked around the corner we couldn’t get over the colour of the water. It’s so Turquoise and clear. As we were walking back to the kids Rog pointed out a massive shark. We were then talking to another family who also saw it and we all thought it was about 2 metres long but we couldn’t work out what type it was. They said the sea turtles swam in really close to shore because of the shark too.
We then decided we didn’t need to do any more snorkelling so Rog kept look out whilst the kids and I swam close to the shore.
The wind started to pick up again so we went back to the caravan for lunch and did some sorting and cleaning. We watched a movie and the kids met another family camped next to us.
We then went back to Sandy Bay for a swim but it was so windy so we just watched some sea turtles then went back to the caravan. We can’t believe how lucky we are to have seen so many sea turtles.
I watched another pretty sunset, we had dinner then played cards. The wind is howling and so strong we feel very lucky to be in a caravan and sorry for everyone getting blown around in their tents.
Unfortunately by the time we got internet access and booked the campsites online we could only get one night bookings so it’s meant we’ve had to stay at a different campground each night. It’s been nice to see so many different areas but it’s meant we’ve missed some of the calmest times of the day to snorkel.
