Day 65 - Bunbury to Busselton (71km/1 hr)
We woke up to the beautiful sounds of waves crashing at the beach. Rog cooked us bacon & eggs at the public BBQs and the kids enjoyed playing with the dogs that were going past on their morning walks.
We drove to Koombana Beach to the dolphin discovery centre to see if any dolphins were visiting. The water was very choppy and we didn’t spot any as we are too early in the season. The dolphins are in abundance around end Oct to April. The kids enjoyed having the whole foreshore playground to themselves and especially loved racing each other on the flying foxes.
We left Bunbury around 9:00am for our short drive to Busselton. We arrived at Busselton Farm around 10:00am. We unhitched and then got ready for a day of sightseeing.
We drove to Yallingup and stopped at a beach and enjoyed watching the big swell and looking at the beautifully shaded blue and turquoise crystal clear water. We then continued driving to Injidup Natural Spa.
As we arrived Rog spotted a whale really close to the coast so we quickly scrambled up the rocks to watch it swim past and flick its tail. We continued watching it for about 15 minutes and we were so happy to finally see a whale so close.
We then climbed down the rocks to the natural spa (which is an amazing rock formation that resemble a spa when the waves crash over and then flow down into the pool). It was so pretty and the kids really wanted a swim but it was a bit cold and pretty deep too. Instead they just climbed over all the rocks and dipped their feet in the water instead. We had to coax Bronte away as she loved it so much.
Next stop was Canal Rocks which are granitic rocks that jut into the ocean and are separated by a series of canals carved by the sea. You walk across the canals via narrow bridges and a boardwalk.
Next stop was Sugarloaf Rock which is a large natural granite island that resembles an old style sugarloaf. Whilst we were here admiring the views we spotted some more whales but this time further off the coast.
We then continued our drive to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. We walked around the lighthouse and down to the whale watching lookout. We spotted more whales and they weren’t too far away this time either.
We then drove to Busselton Archery Park so the kids could use their bow and arrows on a proper archery target. There were 9 different targets and we all got to shoot 3 arrows at each target. The kids and Rog were pretty good but I was terrible. We all had lots of fun apart from getting eaten alive by mosquitoes!
We drove back to the caravan and met the owners new puppy which the kids fell in love with (and maybe me too!) and looked at the cows. Rog & I enjoyed eating dinner outside watching the sunset for the day.
