Day 59 - Murchison House Station (Kalbarri) to Oakabella Homestead (138kms)
The kids couldn’t wait to get out on the tyre swing and Josh walked some dogs he befriended. We then fed our scraps to the chooks and left the station around 8:30am.
We drove into Kalbarri and the boys fished at Chinamens Beach while Bronte played at the adventure playground. She loved going on the flying fox. Bronte & I then walked to the local shops and enjoyed browsing through everything.
We bought some yummy fresh bread from the bakery and some donuts as a special treat. Lunch was so nice with the fresh bread.
The boys didn’t have any luck fishing so they went for a swim instead. We left Kalbarri around 2:30pm and drove past the Pink Lake (we didn’t bother stopping as we could see enough from driving alongside it).
We saw lots of blue tongue lizards on the road today which thankfully we were able to dodge.
Today’s drive was very pretty with all the rolling hills which are so green. We saw lots of wheat fields and yellow canola fields. It’s such a difference from all the dry brown land we have been used to seeing.
We arrived at Oakabella Homestead around 4pm. Once we got set-up the kids played in the playground, then Josh patted the ram, sheep and lambs.
At 5pm they have happy hour around a communal fire pit with freshly baked scones with jam & cream. Probably not the best thing to go with red wine but they were delicious. All the kids were having a great time playing footy, cards and spotlight. We enjoyed chatting to the adults and met a lovely family from the central coast.
We were all having so much fun that the time got away and it was suddenly 8pm. So it was a mad dash back to the caravan to cook dinner and get showered and to bed!
