Day 54 - Cape Range National Park to Point Quobba (472km/7.5hrs)
We were up early and on the road by 5:30am. As we were driving out of Cape Range National Park we saw lots of kangaroos so we drove out slowly.
We stopped at the boat ramp (which was highly recommended) to fill the water tanks in the van. It’s the first time both tanks have been flashing due to the low water levels. While we were waiting we spotted some whales.
We did a quick shop at IGA, filled up with fuel and we were back on the road again.
We crossed over the Tropic of Capricorn and fuelled again at Minilya.
Today we are driving to Point Quobba which is a favourite destination of Rog’s from our previous trip. He has been hanging to get back.
As we were driving into Point Quobba we saw some emus. We arrived at Point Quobba at 1pm and were shocked to see the place so empty. Last time we got the last site (which they squeezed us into) and this time we didn’t know where to go as we could go anywhere. We found a site and hope the sand dunes are going to be enough of a windbreak as the wind is still howling.
We unhitched, had lunch and then went for a walk along the beach to the aquarium. The aquarium is a protected bay with coral and beautiful fish. The tide was low and it was blowing a gale so we just looked then continued to the blow holes.
The sea is so ferocious the way the waves crash into the rocks. The blow holes weren’t massive but they still put on a good show. We also had a chat to a lovely couple from Lithgow.
We then went back to the caravan and played cards. We enjoyed watching the sunset but it was freezing so we were trying to find a windbreak in the sand dunes. We had dinner then watched a movie.
