Day 37 - Kununurra & El Questro (238kms)
We were awake early today as we are still trying to adjust to WA time.
Today we are driving to the beautiful El Questro the heart of the Kimberley’s.
First stop was Emma Gorge Resort so we could buy our visitor permit. We had to go through 2 water crossings to get there so that was pretty exciting.
Next stop was Zebedee Springs which is a series of rocky thermal pools in a natural oasis set at the base of sheer cliffs. We were relaxing in the different rock pools for 2 hours.
We ate our lunch and then drove back to Emma Gorge so we could do the gorge walk. It’s a 3.2km, grade 4 walk over lots of rocks with pools along the way. In one of the pools we spotted two freshwater crocs and Rog saw a snake sliding down a tree.
At the top (or end) is a huge waterhole with a 35m droplet waterfall enclosed on three sides by sheer cliffs. The water was very refreshing and there was even a freshwater croc hiding on a ledge under the waterfall. I enjoyed sitting on the right hand side where thermal water trickles from the rocks.
We then walked back out of the gorge to our car and drove back across the water crossings and along the Gibb River Road to meet the highway - which I was very happy to be off the corrugated road (even though it wasn’t too bad the Gibb River Road doesn’t interest me!)
Once we were back in Kununurra we went and looked at the world famous Argyle Pink Diamonds and wow they were so pretty but very expensive.
We then went back to the caravan and the kids had another swim and enjoyed playing with other kids in the park.
Had dinner and the family were all asleep early tonight.
