Today is even windier! Checked, Blue Star running, just missed the 2 day strike too.
As we were packing a knock on the door and we were welcomed with 2 large pieces of warm freshly cooked cheese and spinach pie. It was gorgeous especially as we had run out of stuff for breakfast! Great hosts.
Drove into port, parked the car and strolled around town, Russ went for a hair and beard trim. At port now, gales and large queue, ferry so far 15 late. Glad we have travel tablets with us as the sea is very rough!
So white horses surround us but the Blue Star is so big that it doesn't rock.
We are sat on level 7 outside, there are clear Windows. Been for a wander and next level,up is very windy! Even has showers on top!
So 1409 we continue our journey with south west Naxos in view.
Naxos Top Tips
Hire a car and drive through the mountain roads to Appollon.
Walk Mount Zas
Get lost in Naxos town.
Visit all 3 Kouros
Buy a Terrain Map
Mikra Vigla is quiet at night, if you want lots of choice to eat and not to drive don't stop here
Stop at Ydreos at Mikra Vigla, has own little sandy bay and the host brings you freshly cooked goodies.
Arrived in Santorini port around 330, quicker time than expected. We were herded off as quick as they good. The announcements kept repeating telling everyone to get ready to disembark and collect luggage. It seemed chaos! We collected our suitcases which are stored where the vehicles are and joined what seemed like thousands of people into, the tiny port area. the police kept blowing their whistles and waving arms frantically. I was amazed how quick the succession of coaches left with their passengers and luggage loaded. A trail of coaches, lorries, cars climbing the zig zag cliff side road. We met our car hire man at the .blue Star ferry office. He gave us a map, showed us how to,work the car and off we set though had to wait for the police lady to stop the traffic to,let us into the line of vehicles climbing the road.
We used Google Maps to find our apartment. Pheonix just outside Fira, a ten minute walk. Faye our hostess was very friendly, helped with bags to our room. Nice touch to of offering us coffee or ice cream.
It is funny that is was 11'days ago we had left the port for Amorgos yet already it is a distant memory.......
We had booked a table at Naousss which was pointless but we still got a table, the place was very busy with a constant stream of people. Food very good we both had beef stavado.
We then went to to Murpheys bar and was ripped off €19 for a vodka and Coke and a Stout. I begrudge spending this much as to me the island is so over rated. We made it last and played back gammon as I had spotted a couple of sets on the bar. We then strolled a little and was offered €5 euro cocktails, not all cocktails though, we had one and returned to our balcony enjoying a Mythos and cup of tea.
