After Milford Sound and Te Anau we made a pleasant drive to Queenstown. We hadn't booked a place to stay yet as Aiden wanted to upgrade (again!!) and not stay in the camper....shady shady shady....
The drive was scenic as always and we arrived into Queenstown about lunchtime. We took advantage of McDonalds and it's free wifi to find a place to stay!
We (actually Aiden) finally settled on the Novotel Hotel which was really central. Just steps from the hotel was the gorgeous lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The hotel itself was really nice and I have to admit I was kind of pleased to get out of the camper!!
By the time we was all checked in, it was late afternoon so we spent our time chilling, watching a film and enjoying a bottle of wine! We got ready early evening and headed out for a few drinks and a meal.
We asked reception for a few restaurant recommendations and decided on a South African restaurant called Flame. We got there and it was really busy so we booked a table for 9pm and headed off to one of the bars for some drinks.
The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous!! Aiden had a steak and I opted for half a rack of ribs which were amazing!! Oh and a huge glass of red wine!! The portions were huge so we didn't manage a dessert!!
Aiden was weird all meal...haha (sorry Aiden I have to say it!) and well I wasn't entirely sure why! Anyway Aiden wanted to walk round the lake but it was freezing so we decided to make our way back to the hotel, which was along the lakeside anyway and I was asking him random questions as Sarah does, trying to figure out what he was up to! We got to a gorgeous little archway which was all lit up and just next to the lake and all of a sudden Aiden fired a question back at me and was on one knee proposing!!...I had to double take and register what was going on and my first response was...well have you asked my dad haha...and then of course I said yes!
Bless Aiden so after this, all his shady behaviour became clear...he had tried to get me on a helicopter and I refused and said it was too expensive, he had tried to get me to go on numerous other trips and I refused and he had tried to take me on numerous walks at sunset around the lakes and I had also refused!! it was cold haha, so poor Aiden certainly had his work cut out!! For all of you reading this that know me I bet your saying...typical sas!!
Anyway it was of course an amazing end to a really lovely night, my ring is gorgeous and were both really happy :-) we celebrated over a few drinks back in the hotel :-) and I'm sure we will celebrate with everyone else when I get home :-)
The next day was really chilled, we had a late check out and went for a late breakfast, we spent the afternoon seeing the sights of queenstown before relaxing with a few drinks outside at one of the bars. It was a lovely day and the sun was shining! Got blinded a few times by my new ring :-) haha. We ended up quite drunk, ended up cooking carbonara...drunk, and then went out to meet Lois and Hannah for more drinks. I have no idea what time we got in!! I think it was a good night :-)
The next day, once our hangovers had cleared we set off on a long but scenic drive along the west coast to Franz Josef...
Frans Josef....SKYDIVE time!!!
