The drive from Queenstown was fairly long but we made plenty of stops and arrived into Franz Josef late afternoon.
The weather was bleak for most of the journey but it seemed to take up once we arrived!
We called in at a small supermarket to find something for dinner and we decided we would cook carbonara again (It was pretty awesome when we had it the first time, hehe) Then we headed to a campsite which was really nice, slightly out of town but really peaceful.
We set up the camper and Aiden went and booked us in for skydiving the next day. We were hoping for better weather as today had been pretty rubbish! Afterwards we headed off to the kitchen to cook dinner and also have a few ciders/glasses of wine! That evening we chilled and watched idiot abroad on the laptop before having a fairly early night ready for skydiving in the morning!!
Wow so the next day was AMAZING weather!! sunny with not a single cloud in the sky!! such a great day for skydiving!!
We were up early and Aiden made breakfast on our little cooker, then it was time to head into town and check-in for our skydive! We signed our lives away and we were picked up in a mini van and taken to the airfield!
There was six of us in total but they split us up into small groups. Me and Aiden were due to go up first so we got kitted out in our jumpsuits, given a hat and some goggles and before we had time to even think we were in that plane and climbing up to 15,000ft!
The views from the plane were incredible! We could see the glacier, the coast, the snow capped mountains, the lake and the rainforest! This kind of takes your mind off what your about to do but as it was my second jump I didn't feel at all nervous and considering it was Aidens first he didn't seem it either!
At 12,000ft they are required to give you oxygen. Everbody has this including the instructors. Then you have just enough time to fix your goggles before they open the door!
Aiden was first to go and then myself and then one of the other instructors who was female I think just jumped for fun! The jump was amazing and the freefall seemed to last for quite along time which is good because that's the best part and the views are awesome!! Once my parachute was open I could see Aiden floating back down to earth :-) We met back up on the ground and had both loved our skydive!!
We were done by about 12:30 so we had the afternoon to do other things. We decided to visit the Kiwi wildlife centre which was cool, Kiwi's are so cute! We also had a huge ice cream there and sat out on the decking soaking up some rays!!
After the Kiwi centre we headed to the hot springs for some relaxation! There was quite a few different pools ranging from 36-40 degrees! nice! We spent an hour or so there before heading back to the campsite via the supermarket!
Back at camp Aiden did some laundry whilst I cooked us both Spaghetti Bolognese on our little stove! I introduced Aiden to putting red wine in it haha and then we sat out on our picnic bench to eat and have a few drinks! It was a lovely evening so sitting outside and admiring the views was great!
Once the sun had gone down we headed to the lounge area where we sat and watched the rugby before calling it a night! It had been one very busy but amazing day :-)
Next stop....Hanmer Springs!!

Aiden Skydive...well what i can i say...AMAZING! Couldnt have picked a better day, think we had the weather on our side on the whole trip :-). Views where amazing and im so pleased i hung on to doing a skydive in NZ. Kiwi center was cool, they had the best ice cream ever, vanilla brownie mmm, we even had it after boiled egg breakfast the next day before we left lol! We also walked to the face of Franz Josef Glacier, which revealed its true size, helicopters at the top looked tiny! It was quite a long walk and wasn't sure it was the best of my ideas but we enjoyed the sunny weather, took lots of photos and was really pleased we did. Awesome first few days with my fiance :-) :-) :-) x
