Day 45. We rose early to catch our mini-bus to Broome Airport as our Horizontal Falls Seaplanes Adventure departed at 6.00am. Ben was our young pilot and we took off for the 250km trip north towards the red and yellow escarpments of the West Kimberley to land on the calm waters of Talbot Bay right next to the Horizontal Waterfall. We then boarded a 900hp fast boat 'Jet Stream' for a cruise into very protected Cyclone Creek and then into the fast flowing tidal Horizontal Waterfall, crossing up and down several times. Our young captain Christo was very experienced in driving the fast boat through the narrow 20 metre and 8 metre gaps in the two separate ranges. We all hung on tight as the water swirled around us. Very exhilarating! Breakfast was then served on the pontoon by the friendly staff and Paul took a swim with the large sharks! Our float plane landed to pick us up for the one hour flight back to Broome, flying very low over the hundreds of beautiful small islands of the Buccaneer Archipeligo, across the tip of Cape Leveque and then down the very scenic coast of the Dampier Peninsular across Beagle Bay, Willie Creek and Cable Beach. Water was azure blue with white sandy bays, we could see giant manta rays, dolphins, turtles and pods of whales. A fantastic experience! Mid afternoon we visited Matso's Broome Brewery and sat on the verandah with the taster's selection - chilli beer, mango beer, ginger beer, lime with wild ginger. My favourite was the pale ale. A drive out the Port area very interesting, then back to the van for showers and dinner of banana prawns and blueberry yogurt for desert. A fabulous day with more to come tomorrow!
