Day 44. Today we are visiting the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. We drove 30km up the Cape Leveque Road including a section of red bull dust road and across the sandy white mudflats to the farm. A very informative presentation on how pearls are cultured and harvested, then a short boat ride on blue azure waters of the estuary to see the racks of pearls attached to longlines. A large male crocodile cruising the water. A large lustrous South Seas pearl will take 2 years to develop. A nice lunch on the pearl farm deck of grilled barramundi and a locally brewed Matso's pale ale. Raechel bought a lovely rare gold pearl for a necklace. In the afternoon we met our friends from Canberra, Ross and Robyn, for a swim at Cable Beach. Dinner tonight barbecue lamb chops and salad. Hot 34 degrees. Tomorrow we are going flying again.
